October is my favorite month! I love the crispness in the air, pumpkins on porches, and scary movies on the SYFY channel that I refuse to watch. What? I’m a huge wuss. For example, we tried to watch Annabelle Creation last week, and I barely made it through half an hour. I do have favorite spooks and haunts, though, so let’s get into it.

This guy I follow on Twitter (@rihannonthropp) has recommended some pretty spooky reads, and this one caught my eye earlier this year. I saw the cover at B&N and was hooked. It’s deliciously gloomy. I haven’t gotten too far in the story, but I’ll let you know guys know how it is. P.S. There’s a seemingly-alive forest seeping into town and it steals people into it’s inter-dimensional depths. There’s also a people with powers! YAY

I’M GOING THROUGH CHANGES!!!!! Okay, so it’s not scary… unless you think Hormone Monsters are scary. I just started watching this show and was so stoked to find out the new season came out so soon after my binge! If you don’t like adult cartoons like South Park or Family Guy, then you won’t like it. But if you do, please enjoy the amazon voice acting of Nick Kroll, Maya Rudolph, John Mulaney, and many more. Also, prepare to be reminded how embarrassing middle school was… it’s better now that we’re older lol (MOM, DAD, GMA—DON’T WATCH BIG MOUTH! (lol, but really.))

OMG I loved this book. All I needed for October was a fluffy vampire-wizard read, and damn it, I got it! It’s not high-fantasy, but there are water nymphs, magic, and a good ole fashioned American road-trip. Rowell is really great at creating lovely loveable characters. I give this book 4/5 because I think I could have used a little more romance with Baz and Simon, but I’m certainly not complaining!

Holy. Crap. This show gives me everything a girl could want. 1) A sexy bad boy, who’s really trying to be good, but is realllllly good at being bad. 2) Family full of gypsy gangsters. 3) Middle finger to nationalists/fascists!! I love it. And so does my husband. It’s the perfect show to watch together. He likes it because he likes flawed protags that just so happen to be gangsters, and I like it because of Tommy Shelby and Polly Gray. You’ll just have to watch it to find out…

ICAN’TBELIEVEIHAVEHADTHISBOOKONMYSHELVESFORMONTHSANDHAVEN’TPICKEDITUP. Excuse the all caps, but I’m seriously upset with myself. I’ve been saying how much I want to read this book and when I looked at my shelf this past week, what do I see? This would-be-amazing book staring right at me. Needless to say, ya girl is going to be reading this for October so she can consume all of the good words by V.E. before going into Camp NaNoWriMo next month. I can’t wait!
Now that you’ve gotten to the end, you should go read/watch these with me so we can nerd out. I don’t have enough book/show friends and I need more! If you’ve watched or read any of the above, let me know!
Honorable Mentions: News seasons of South Park and Family Guy, Letterkenny (Season 7 premiering Oct. 14), She-Ra: The Princess of Power, Prodigal Son (I like it!), Outlander (reading the first eBook now), Oathbreaker, Nevernight (so dark and delicious).
